Enna – Holy Friday

The rites of Holy Week in Enna are strongly marked by the presence of 15 confraternities. From the Palm Sunday until the late morning of Holy Wednesday these, starting in procession from their respective churches, go to the Duomo for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a ritual locally called the ura.
Holy Friday, in the morning, at the Church of SS. Salvatore, the sumptuous urn is set up with the body of Christ, who receives the visits of the faithful. In the early hours of the afternoon, all confraternities reach the Duomo with the statues of the dead Christ and the Addolorata, collected along the path from the Church of SS. Salvatore and the Church of Maria SS. Addolorata, to begin the solemn procession in the evening.
Hundreds of hooded confreres, covered with a white habit and cloaks of different colors, ordered by membership, stand in silence in front of the statues. There are also many girls dressed as nuns and children dressed in angels. On Easter Sunday, in the afternoon, the meeting between Christ and the Virgin takes place in Paci.
The Madonna, covered by a black cloak, starts from the Church of St. Joseph, while the resurrected Christ starts from the Church of SS. Salvatore to reach the Duomo.
