Religious tourism in Sicily is presented in various forms and activities. The traditions and religious culture of Sicily and the Sicilians, the presence of important shrines (reference for significant spiritual itineraries) represent some strong points in terms of attraction of tourist flows driven by religious interests. A phenomenon of great appeal at national and international level especially with regard to the rites of Holy Easter and Holy Week, for example, the Mysteries of Trapani and the Processions of Caltanissetta, very popular in southern Italy, Spain, Malta and Portugal. But also in the context of the festivities linked to the Saints as, for example, the numerous manifestations of the Holy Patrons spread throughout the region (for example Saint Rosalia, Saint Agata, Saint Calogero, etc.) and also some rites of specific Saints (such as St. Joseph or Saint Lucia). Particular reference deserves the celebrations of religious figures, protecting specific categories, such as those related to the sea; many are in fact the processions in the sea, in the mountains, or in other contexts. But special rites of other religions are equally significant, as in the case of the Madonna del Soccorso in Sciacca or the orthodox rites of the area of Piana degli Albanesi and of other places.
