Archeological Area of Solunto – Santa Flavia (PA)

At the slopes of Monte Catalfano, the ruins of the town of Solunto occupy a site of great beauty, with panoramic sea views. The city is rich in history, with ancient roots: founded by the Phoenicians and later passed to the Carthaginians that transform it into an important maritime center, after the First Punic War, it is dominated by the Romans. The Greek term Solunto derives from the mythological figure of Brigand Solus, killed by hero Heracles; in the Phoenician era, however, as evidenced by the coins found in the place, the name was Kfra, village.

Visiting the Archaeological Park, a manifestation of dominations that gradually took power, is possible to understand and locate very clearly the urban layout of the ancient city. Do not miss the nearby town of Sant’Elia which it has a natural bay breathtaking.
