The hermitage of Santa Rosalia alla Quisquina – Santo Stefano di Quisquina

The hermitage of Santa Rosalia alla Quisquina – Santo Stefano di Quisquina

A magnificent example of seventeenth-century architecture, the Hermitage of Santa Rosalia stands stately in the oak forest of Quisquina at about 1000 meters above sea level. The complex, rich in history and spiritual charm, is built at the end of 1600, near the cave where Santa Rosalia led a hermitic life.

Following the discovery of the Quisquina cave on August 24, 1624, the Stefanesi asked the relics of the saint to Cardinal Doria, Archbishop of Palermo, and obtained them. Placed in a beautiful silver half bust, they were brought to St. Stefano with a solemn procession.

The hermitage of Quisquina is the destination for continuous pilgrimages of faithful from many Sicilian countries, of Italy and other nations such as Poland, Germany and France.
